The Temple Grounds

One of the most photogenic places in Hawaii—brilliant white against lush green, framed by sunrises, sunsets, rainbows, and tropical gardens.

"May all who come upon these grounds which surround this Temple, in the years to come, feel the sweet and peaceful influence of this blessed and hallowed spot."

— President Heber J. Grant, Laie Hawaii Temple Dedication, 1919

Fountains and Reflecting Pools

Four Reflecting Pools

Centered in the courtyard, these serene pools are said to represent the four oceans Polynesian voyagers crossed before arriving in Hawaii—a tribute to their faith and courage.

The Maternity Fountain

A Hawaiian woman holds a giant oyster shell, pouring water over her children—symbolizing a mother’s endless love, hope, and care cascading through generations into eternity.

Mosaic Tile Fountain

Hale La'a Boulevard

This stunning road leads directly to the temple, lined with thousands of flowers—the center aisle features Hawaii’s state flower, the yellow hibiscus with its red center.

In Hawaiian, “hale” means “house” and “la’a” means “sacred.” The road to the sacred house is long, just like our journey through life. If we endure to the end, we return to be with the Lord.

"May this be a place where all people—thousands, hundreds of thousands, even millions—who travel up and down Kamehameha Highway may slow down and look up this lovely street to the temple, and have come into their hearts some acknowledgment that this is a special place—a place of beauty, a place of faith, a place of God."

— President Gordon B. Hinckley, 2004
